It begins with an unusual pen friendship. 65-year-old Amy from Iowa and 28-year-old Sara from Sweden have one thing in common: they love books - even more than people. Enthusiastically, Sara decides to visit her soul mate. But when she arrives in Broken Wheel, Amy is dead. And Sara is all alone. In the middle of nowhere. Somewhere in lowa. But Sara doesn't give in and opens a bookstore with Amy's collection. And she invents new categories to inspire the sleepy place for books: "No unnecessary words", "For Friday evenings", "Cosy Sundays in bed". Her recommendations are as quirky and endearing as the inhabitants themselves. And gradually the people from Broken Wheel start reading - while Sara realizes that there is something else in life besides books.
