Marriages are already difficult in the best of times, especially when one of the partners is dead. Vincent Banecroft, the hot-tempered editor of the Stranger Times, has never accepted the death of his wife, despite rather clear evidence to the contrary. Now it seems he might actually be right: How far will he go to save her? Banecroft is distracted, and this makes Hannah Willis's resignation as deputy editor-in-chief particularly inconvenient. Is it a good idea to retreat to a trendy New Age center of a celebrity cult right now? And then a former columnist for the newspaper goes missing - particularly impressive since he never existed.
