Gray, my friend, is all theory. With this sentence, Goethe's learned Dr. Faust has expressed a commonplace that also applies when studying the essence of the matter. The measure of internships is intended to create a bridge between gray theory and practice. This has been recognized early on by trainers in companies. The quality of the German vocational training, which is also valued abroad, is known to rest on the two pillars of practical training in the company and theoretical underpinning in vocational schools. For many years now, study programs that combine early theoretical reflection with practical experience have gained importance. The practice-oriented universities of applied sciences, with their integrated internships, have enjoyed a growing influx of students for decades. The topic of internships is currently more present than ever. However, apart from countless internship guides and offers, there is hardly any critical engagement and investigation into how it truly serves as a bridge between theory and practice. The idea for this book arose against the backdrop that internships are increasingly popular as a tool for recruiting young talent, and more and more employers are promoting practical experience as a prerequisite for hiring. However, not all internships are created equal, and both internship providers and interns do not always conduct them optimally or take them seriously enough. This experience helps to recognize that thorough preparation and strategic planning from both sides are necessary for a win-win situation to occur. Thus, the aim of this book is to shed light on the increasingly popular internship.
