Multimedia applications increasingly confront foreign language learners (L2 learners) with the learning modality of simultaneous listening and reading (HL). Although visual and auditory modalities increase the process capacity of working memory, HL is not an effective learning modality for L2 learners. However, since previous studies have focused on L2 beginners, the effects of this learning modality on advanced L2 learners have not been sufficiently clarified to date. In contrast, in this book, the author systematically examines for the first time the effects of HL on L2 reading in advanced Chinese German learners, making innovative use of the method of eye movement measurement.
