Paintings

"Paintings" brings together small-format paintings by American artist Karen Kilimnik from recent years. Her depictions of English country houses and enchanted fairy-tale castles are infused with a romantic and melodramatic style. She emphatically portrays three Angora cats like the three Graces, shows exotic ducks reminiscent of Géricault's chickens, paints a kestrel as if it were a commissioned work for the Emir of Qatar, and lovingly depicts butterflies at night. Time and again, she paints the old legend of the price that fame, beauty, and wealth supposedly come with. In a brilliant triptych, Princess Diana leaves the Ritz one last time, Leonardo DiCaprio flashes his boyish smile, Kate Moss has her hand tucked into her jeans, a veiled moon appears behind decoratively bare trees, and candles burn in the nighttime park.
