The Mittelland - a landscape dotted with buildings, oscillating between nature and urbanity. A world full of interfaces and gray areas, where city and countryside, nature and settlements, public and private spaces blend into one another. Is the Mittelland a vast agglomeration, a single sprawling settlement? Michael Blaser also grew up in the agglomeration and perhaps that is why he is interested in its peculiarities. His images are not landscape and architectural photographs, but social documentaries. In the domesticated landscapes with their infrastructures, Switzerland today is reflected - a country striving for a modern, urban identity while still unable to shake off its provincial image.
