Crystal Clear

Crystal Clear is a fascinating monograph that presents the works of the young Swiss artist Maya Rochat. In this work, Rochat explores the depths of the photographic surface through a combination of analog and digital image compositions. Her works are characterized by a radical association, in which she interweaves self-written elements with external image fragments. Portraits of friends and landscape shots merge into dense, intimate image textures, which she meticulously refines with surgical precision. The bittersweet visual universe seen in Crystal Clear eludes conventional patterns of interpretation and challenges traditional ideals of beauty. Maya Rochat, born in 1985, lives and works in Lausanne and Geneva, and employs photography, collage, and video as her primary media.
