However, the places of inspiration are not always easily accessible. Sometimes they only reveal themselves after extensive research. Often, one finds themselves in a foreign city, nose buried in a confusing city map, searching for the alley where the poet X supposedly spent his youth or where Duchess Y held her literary salon. There are numerous wrong turns, and eventually, one stands in front of a dull commemorative plaque – the house in question has long been demolished! And if it still exists, a grumpy caretaker might suddenly appear and chase away the photographer before she can even set up her tripod. It may also happen that the sought-after image motif lies precisely in a military restricted area. Bernd Erhard Fischer recounts unexpected obstacles, skeptical poet widows, enthusiastic estate managers, and museum stagnation, but also the power of the authentic and surprising gaps in time. Angelika Fischer contributes numerous, never-before-seen photos from her twenty years of work as a visual author for the publishing house.
