The story begins in Genoa: As soon as the narrator boards the ship, time goes out of sync and becomes an all-encompassing space. The journey leads to Sardinia, her chosen home, where she navigates an archaic world governed by unfamiliar laws. At the center and the magnet of her experience is Antonella, the mother of six children, a regal woman, graceful yet ugly, powerful, independent - and the epitome of life. Antonella has willingly welcomed the narrator into her large family, assigning her a place and a role within it. Rural Sardinia becomes a fascinating and enriching counterworld for the city dweller. Suddenly, this paradise is shattered by Antonella's death - and here begins the true lament, the mourning for the dead. Where the deceased once gave meaning to everything, the former happiness now becomes questionable and crumbles. Death, memories.
