Summary:
Max Weber's Economy and Society is not a book in parts, but a project in several versions. After the edition of the pre-war version in MWG I/22, the unfinished version of 1919/20, still given by Max Weber for printing, is now presented. The study edition comprises the four chapters of this version, including the famous chapters I "Basic Sociological Concepts" and III "The Types of Rule," chapter II "Basic Sociological Categories of Economic Activity," which has often been neglected in its reception, and the unfinished chapter IV "Estates and Classes." An afterword describes the genesis of the work. The appendix contains information on text editing and aids to text indexing.
