Winter magic on the North Sea coast. Stella has been happily married to Holger for fifteen years. The former beauty queen has become a content, plump housewife. When Holger suddenly leaves Stella just before Christmas, she is taken completely by surprise. Apparently, he values appearances more than she wanted to admit. To clear her head, Stella impulsively sets off to visit her brother, who runs the family’s old farm in Westerhever. During her adventurous journey over snowy roads, she picks up a hitchhiker named Hauke, and they grow closer. Upon arriving in the north, Stella helps out with the farm work and reunites with the charming veterinarian Michael, with whom she had a good rapport back in school. But then Hauke suddenly reappears. Stella's emotional turmoil ensues.
