Ecksteine

"Ecksteine" is the story of six young amateur musicians who wanted to play modern jazz in Bremen in the "wild sixties". Today the "Harald Eckstein Sextet" is a Bremen jazz legend. Karlchen, drummer of the "Ecksteine", describes the history of the band in his book. He takes us to past venues: the jazz mill in OHZ, the decaying Schnoor, the Bremerhaven red light milieu and the Lila-Eule. He tells of very peculiar performances and of Bremen in the 60s, which at that time was characterised by avant-garde tendencies like no other city: beat club, Bremer Theater style, student unrest, school reforms and Rudi Dutschke! At that time, Bremen was acting beyond itself! Never again was our city so exciting! Finally, we learn about the disintegration of the sextet and Ed Kröger's way out of this adventurous development. The book is a varied report. In 33 thematic sections, texts from narratives, diaries, reports and documentaries mix stylistically.
