We live in a world in which informational networking determines our lives, a digital world that is full of possibilities and at the same time overwhelming. Do we still have an eye for the essentials, are we able to separate the important from the unimportant? Digitalisation is shaping our everyday lives as never before. Social networks like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Co. are indispensable nowadays, and yet social communication still falls by the wayside. An echo chamber (digital filter bubble) leads to social alienation and growing self-centredness - an explosive social problem of our time. With every post, every like, every click on the net, we leave digital traces that are not only recorded and stored, but also analysed, traced and used by third parties. Communication designers Claudia Stollenwerk and Miriam Keil reveal how our opinions can be manipulated and how data collectors profit from our online behaviour. In addition to the current state of communication in the digital transparency society, the effects of artificial intelligence (social bots), fake news and the political power of social networks are illustrated. In a playful way, the layout picks up elements of our digital world and thus captivates the readership.
