The book builds on the six learning fields of the basic level and covers with the learning fields 7 to 17 the teaching material of the tile, slab and mosaic layer for the
2nd and 3rd year of training. In terms of structure and outline, it adheres to the specifications of the federal framework curriculum. Mathematics and technical drawing are integrated accordingly.

The didactic principle of prefacing the relevant content with a project task provides students with an incentive to solve construction-related problems and promotes holistic and independent learning. Particular importance was attached to a clear presentation of the content and easy-to-understand language. The clear structure and color coding of the contents ensure easy orientation in the work, while the numerous informative illustrations additionally support successful learning.

This new edition has also been used to bring the tried and tested work up to date with regard to current developments in technology and standardization in words and pictures, as well as to make further improvements and additions.

The following changes deserve special mention:

• Now that more and more technical regulations and standards have been converted to the new unit Pascal for mechanical stress and pressure, this unit has now been consistently applied, but the respective previous unit is usually still additionally indicated.
• In the course of the revision, the illustrations on around 50 pages have been brought up to date.
• In learning field 8, the section "Vibrating process" has been revised.
• In learning field 9, the section "Waterproofing materials in bathrooms" has been updated.
• In learning field 10, the section "Locally manufactured partition walls (in swimming pool areas)" was revised.
• In learning area 12, the topic "Handicraft.
