Reflecting on Life: "She woke from sleep. It must have been late, for the whole house was silent. Cecilie opened her eyes and turned on the lamp above the bed. She heard a voice asking, 'Did you sleep well?' Who was that?" Snow-white and untouchable, the angel Ariel suddenly sits on the windowsill of the dying Cecilie. It is Christmas, and downstairs the family is preparing everything for the grand celebration. Then Ariel begins to speak with the cancer-stricken Cecilie: about creation, the cosmos, and the senses through which humans perceive creation. Conversely, Ariel wants to know everything from Cecilie about the lives of humans, who, unlike him, are mortal beings. For the first and last time in her life, Cecilie finds herself challenged to reflect on her existence in the world and to penetrate it with her imagination.
