Christmas Eve was one of the best days of the year for Petra Hartlieb for a long time - until she became a bookseller. Now Christmas begins for Petra Hartlieb at the beginning of November. Together with her colleague Eva, she stacks and clears the shelves for an entire evening until the miracle is complete and the bookstore seems to be bursting with merchandise: every table, every shelf, every empty space, no matter how small, is filled with books for the Christmas trade. The customers can come. And they come in droves - and often enough in a panic. They ask obscure questions, play funny title guessing games with the booksellers, are rushed, desperate and sometimes just grateful. Many regular customers have also become good friends, bringing over much-needed food, help in any form, and good cheer. And so the most terrible time of the year also has beautiful moments. But for Petra Hartlieb, the most beautiful day of all is still the one: December 24 - because that's when the lights go out in the bookstore at 1 p.m. at the latest and everything is finally over. For one year.
