D.U. addresses students by introducing and practicing skills related to topics and contexts from their everyday lives. The progression of learning tasks is aligned with the thought processes and work steps of the students, thereby reflecting understandable, transparent, and diverse learning paths. Learning processes are designed inductively, tasks build on prior knowledge and learning prerequisites, and they allow for individual focus as well as cooperative learning. Level-differentiated tasks encourage reflection on one's own learning status. Each chapter offers a competency test for self-diagnosis, and the appendix "Knowledge and Skills" is always available for referencing fundamental competencies. D.U. also addresses teachers by integratively linking the four competency areas and combining the skills with challenging and motivating content.
