Constable Peter Grant is a normal London bobby. The department he works in, however, is anything but normal: their specialty is magic. Peter's superior, Detective Inspector Thomas Nightingale, is England's last magician and Peter has recently joined him in training.
What means at the moment above all the memorizing of Latin vocabulary, the ancient spells finally want to be recited correctly. But when Peter is called one night to the corpse of a jazz musician, the study of Latin suddenly loses its urgency. Peter finds out that in the jazz clubs in Soho, in the heart of London, suddenly suspiciously many musicians die an unexpected death. Something is not going right here ...
