England, 1938: Literature professor and occasional detective John Stableford is looking forward to a few carefree days in his father-in-law's library, the vicar of Upper Biggins. However, when his niece finds a golf ball marked with a swastika in the garden of the rectory, the idyllic atmosphere is abruptly shattered. This scandalous discovery leads John to the neighboring manor, where his friend Dr. Holmes is waiting for him. That very evening, the host, Sir Edmund Rogie, collapses under mysterious circumstances during a banquet. But that’s not all. The following day, a murder occurs that seems so impossible that Stableford begins to doubt his own sanity.
