Drei alte Erzhlungen

The Jew's Birch deals with the unresolved murder of Jews and its background and aftermath. The Black Spider narrates, framed by a child's baptism celebration, the twofold intrusion of evil into the idyllic world of the Bernese Oberland. Krambambuli, the magnificent hunting dog of a drunkard and poacher, is acquired by gamekeeper Hopp for twelve bottles of the eponymous juniper schnapps. In the fateful showdown between the old and new masters in the forest, Krambambuli finds himself with a torn heart caught between the fronts.
