Doppler

A burst tyre. First the bowls fly through the passenger compartment, then mum and dad. The unharmed boy is banished to his grandparents, his exile is called Frankenhayn. It's a prankster who thinks of Frankenstein - even if the village, located in a wine-growing region of Austria, and its staff certainly have gruesome features. Alcohol (served in monstrous two-litre bottles called "Doppler"), faith (in the church and family) and seemingly archaic traditions play the main role in this summer of 1970, after which nothing is the same as it was before. Thomas Oláh's first novel is tremendously funny and not for the faint-hearted.
