Don Juan d'Austria und die Schlacht bei Lepanto

At the Hartlaub reception, one simply did not want to believe it (or at best took note of it like wallpaper in the background): Felix Hartlaub was a well-trained and acknowledged military historian. He went from Heidelberg to Berlin in the autumn of 1934, changed his field of study (from Romance studies to history) and studied with Prof. Walter Elze, a member of the George Circle, in the War History Department of the History Department of the Friedrich Wilhelm University in Berlin. At the beginning of 1939 he completed his dissertation on "Don Juan d'Austria and the Battle of Lepanto" and was awarded his doctorate with distinction on 16 January 1940. Felix Hartlaub's literary work, which remained in his torso, as well as the main part of his letters, was published in various editions, but not his brilliant dissertation on that epochal battle in the eastern part of the Middle East.
