Doctor Ain (Volume 1 of the series) shows the humorous beginnings of James Tiptree Jr. at the end of the 1960s. Her story "Birth of a Salesman" was the author's breakthrough. A customs official in an interplanetary loading station, actually at risk of burnout, must decide every minute how to pack conventional goods, since in other solar systems they could well be taken as a declaration of war or are indexed.
