In dogmatics, we ask: What do we have to think and say? It is understood that we have been instructed by Scripture on where to draw this "what" from, and with the awareness that we are not only to say something theoretically, but to call something into the world. This is one of the clear statements from the Bonn lecture that Karl Barth delivered in 1946, teaching in Germany for the first time since his expulsion in 1935. In the semi-ruins of the Electoral Palace, the Swiss theologian summarizes the core messages of the Christian faith in free speech, with only the guiding statements pre-formulated.
