Does social work have a political mandate?

In this volume, the current and extraordinarily heated debate on a political mandate for social work is brought together and carried on. Hardly any other discourse has polarised social work to such an extent in recent years. The background to this debate is, on the one hand, the globalisation of the economy and the increasing number of losers of globalisation that goes hand in hand with it. On the other hand, in view of the impending "restructuring of the welfare state", it is expected that only savings that mean a loss of social security will be achieved. Although in this situation the question of a political mandate suggests uniformity in social work, the situation is fragmented.
