The Low German sayings and life experience wisdom taken from everyday life provide insights into the traditions and cultures of the people of Northern Germany. Many of the Low German sayings allow us to draw conclusions about the living conditions of the people. Many of them have also found their way into modern-day High German. The special thing about Low German is its very vivid metaphors, which give an idea of how closely life in those days was interwoven with observations of nature and everyday work. Their life experiences and everyday sayings are proof that daily work and regular contact with nature shaped their lives. This extensive collection is made up of well-known and lesser-known Low German idioms, proverbs, sayings and life experience sayings from the Oldenburg region, the Oldenburg Münsterland, the Münsterland, East Frisia, Emsland, Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. As in the first collection, "Dei Buur un dat Veih", the Low German sayings and idioms in this book are also divided into themes. In order that people who do not speak Low German can also enjoy reading the articles, all of them have been translated word-for-word into High German and provided with an explanation of their meaning. Improvements and additions are certainly possible here. In the appendix you will also find several hundred names and terms for people and expressions about their actions, as well as the Low German names for many plants, animals and birds.
