Roots

The book "Roots" by Ai Weiwei is an impressive documentation of the creation of his unique iron sculptures, inspired by the roots of the endangered Pequi tree. Ai Weiwei, one of the most renowned conceptual artists of our time, addresses the impacts of industrialization and globalization on nature in this series of works. The sculptures, cast from roots over 100 years old, were created during a journey through the rainforests of Bahia and were first presented in the exhibition Raiz at the OCA Pavilion in São Paulo. In "Roots," various authors contribute texts that take an interdisciplinary approach, linking themes such as anthropology, sociology, botany, and ecology. The book not only provides a deep insight into Ai Weiwei's artistic work but also encourages reflection on climate change and the destruction of the rainforest.
