Product details

A well-kept secret is revealed: "Dinner for One" is actually from Switzerland. It is a plagiarism of the last act of the Bernese peasant burlesque "Die rychi Püri" (The Rich Peasant Woman), with which the Langenthal Peasant Theatre travelled through Switzerland at the end of the 19th century. None other than Sherlock Holmes' faithful Dr. Watson happened to see the play at the time. In the Swiss version of the New Year's Eve classic, the maid Babettli of course serves the bill, because a butler in service somewhere in the Bernese Oberaargau, that's ever "vertammisiech a complete shallow! And for "Znacht für ei Einzigi" there's Erbssupppe with gnagi, suure mocke and aarefish. And the Babettli snacks on the "Herrschaftswy" and the "Schämpsi", while the rich farmer's wife is talking about the four people not present. Also contains the original English text.
