Product details

The book provides insights into the criminal law of real existing socialism in Europe, especially the GDR. The book covers the philosophical starting points in the 19th century (Marx), the legal-theoretical debates in the Soviet Union in the 1920s and later in the GDR, and from there on to criminal practice, namely the economic criminal law of the GDR and the death penalty as exemplary fields. Insights into other countries of the then Warsaw Pact are provided by essays on sentencing in Poland, the criminal protection of life in Hungary, and the Czechoslovakian crime of excess. The aim is to support a deeper understanding of this criminal law thinking by profiling the theory-practice relationship.
