On January 1, 2011, the Swiss Criminal Procedure Code will come into effect. Considering its development as well as the significant political and practical importance of this law, the Swiss Criminal Procedure Code can rightly be regarded as a later but successful milestone in Swiss history. Anyone dealing with criminal procedural law will need to engage with this extensive and detailed legislation—containing over 450 articles—early on. This applies not only to cantonal authorities and courts that must adapt the organization and processes of justice and legal enforcement. Rather, all practitioners involved in criminal law should be fundamentally familiar with this new legal territory upon the law's enactment. To contribute to this understanding, the Zurich Foundation for Legal Education organized a full-day event on December 8, 2009, at the Congress Center in Zurich. The speakers provided an overview of the Swiss Criminal Procedure Code, highlighted selected aspects from a Zurich perspective, and answered questions. The presentations generated significant interest. Therefore, they will be made available here in an expanded form.
