How is maternity leave regulated for employed women and when are they entitled to compensation for loss of earnings?
This paper provides a legal and historical classification of the conditions surrounding maternity leave, taking into account current legislation, case law and literature. An international comparison provides an insight into the regulation of postnatal childcare in some neighbouring countries. In addition, an empirical study conducted for this work, involving employees, employers and health and political experts, shows the current situation of maternity leave in Switzerland. As added value, a guide serves as support for employees and employers in dealing with maternity leave.
