This publication examines the job description of the compliance officer and shows how this job description is shaped by various framework conditions, expands the concept of compliance risks beyond legal and reputational risks to include the concept of strategic risk, describes the contribution of compliance to corporate governance, proves that in business models, It concludes that compliance cannot replace management's sense of responsibility, its competence and its will for integrity. It shows that management cannot acquire competence without reflecting on rules and values, and it explains that compliance is 'overridden' by corresponding deficiencies on the part of management personnel.
