The Federal Criminal Court, based in Bellinzona, is the general criminal court of the federal government and commenced its activities on April 1, 2004. The Criminal Chamber adjudicates, among other things, criminal cases that fall under the jurisdiction of federal criminal law according to Articles 336 and 337 of the Criminal Code. The Appeals Chambers specifically address appeals and requests in the areas of federal criminal law and administrative criminal law, jurisdiction, and, since January 1, 2007, also in the area of international legal assistance in criminal matters. Additionally, the President of the I. Appeals Chamber decides on requests for the authorization of undercover agents and the surveillance of postal and telecommunications in federal criminal proceedings. From the collection of past and future decisions, the Federal Criminal Court publishes an official compilation in book form. This compilation includes legally binding decisions that are significant for legal development or for other reasons. At the same time, it aims to promote transparency in the judiciary and strengthen trust in the activities of the Federal Criminal Court. The decisions published in the official compilation are abbreviated with the Italian short designation of the court, TPF (Tribunale penale federale), as a sign of connection with the canton of its seat. Following the compilation for 2004-2006, the first regular volume containing decisions from the year 2007 is now available.
