Product details

Numerous studies on the consequences of digitalisation for labour markets point to an associated change in activities, which is reflected in a decline in substitutable routine activities and an increase in analytical and interactive non-routine activities. Advances in artificial intelligence, among other things, are expanding the possibilities for automation. In order to keep pace with these changes, great importance is attached to further training. This appears to be particularly important for employees with many automatable tasks. This book analyses the extent to which these people participate in continuing education and whether the training measures bring corresponding benefits. Analyses based on the National Educational Panel Study show that employees with a high risk of automation tend to have a lower probability of participating in further training, while there are certainly benefits to further training. Depending on the form of further training or earnings and taking into account the heterogeneity of the employees, there are in some cases clear differences that illustrate the relevance of a differentiated analysis, also for deriving policy implications.
