On the day of her arrival in Berlin, May 16, 1898, Rosa Luxemburg wrote to Leo Jogiches in Zurich, her lover and political comrade: “Today at 6:30 in the morning I arrived. […] I am simply inhumanly exhausted and already hate Berlin and the Germans so much that I could kill them.” Nevertheless, Rosa Luxemburg lived in Berlin for more than two decades, until her murder in January 1919, apart from brief periods in Dresden and Warsaw and some involuntary stints in prison. This city guide – in pocket format, richly illustrated, with maps, useful information, and additional audio – traces the life of Rosa Luxemburg in what was then the center of the international labor movement. Starting from her first apartment near the Tiergarten to the location where her body was found at a lock on the Landwehr Canal four and a half months after her murder, it leads to the places where Rosa Luxemburg worked in Berlin and where she is commemorated. Thus, it serves as both a city guide and a biography in one.
