It was celebrated during the Romantic era as well as in youth and student movements. Today, it enjoys great popularity as "polyamory," especially among cosmopolitans. Those who display jealousy or insist on emotional exclusivity are often seen as hopeless romantics at best, and more commonly as possessive despots. Jealousy is one of the last remaining deadly sins of modernity. The concept of an "open relationship" may seem incredibly liberal and generous at first glance. No, one should not possess or even need anyone. But doesn't this simply reflect a fear of showing one's true colors and being vulnerable? Is marriage the end of passion, and is monogamy synonymous with boredom? Shouldn't loyalty and exclusion be rethought as well?.
