Dietrich Kittner on his 85th birthday on 30 May 2020 For fifty years, cabaret artist Dietrich Kittner took to the stage to tell off politicians and business representatives. This earned him expulsion from the SPD and meant that he was no longer able to appear on television. His stage appearances, however, could not be banned - and they were always on sale. Last but not least, his work was honoured with the German Cabaret Award. Dietrich Kittner (1935-2013) founded his own student cabaret at the age of 25. He later toured all over Germany as a solo artist and was one of the few Western artists to perform in the GDR due to his Marxist positions. Together with his wife Christel, he ran his own theatre in Hanover for three decades: the Theater an der Bult and later the Theater am Küchengarten. In her biography, Sylvia Remé tells the story of a lifelong indomitable but also controversial artist. By categorising Kittner's political-satirical art in historical terms, she opens up a way to rediscover his work in the seventh year after his death.
