Product details

Like Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon, Huldrych Zwingli, along with other scholars from the High School, translated the Bible from the Hebrew and Greek original texts into German. Unlike the Wittenbergers, the Zurich translation project was completed five years earlier (1529). Among the numerous Bibles and Bible parts published by Christoph Froschauer since 1524, the richly illustrated folio Bible from 1531 is one of the most beautiful and important printed works of the time. There are only three colored copies of this edition left in the world, one of which belongs to the church treasure of the Grossmünster and was meticulously restored in 2010/2011. This volume sheds light on the creation of the so-called Froschauer Bible, its dissemination in Europe and North America, and examines the significance of this Reformation Bible in the 21st century.
