With over 200 exhibits from the Renaissance and Baroque periods, the Olbricht Cabinet of Curiosities is one of the most significant private collections of its kind. Cabinets of curiosities first emerged during the Renaissance as private collection spaces. Typically, nobles, as well as wealthy merchants and scholars, gathered precious artworks (Artificialia), rare natural specimens (Naturalia), scientific instruments (Scientifica), objects from foreign worlds (Exotica), and inexplicable items (Mirabilia), thereby showcasing not only power and wealth but also the worldview and knowledge of their time.
