The manual explains the principles of a rule-oriented and learning-friendly spelling instruction as required by the Curriculum 21. This practice-oriented guide is tailored for teachers and students. It provides the necessary background knowledge to individually promote the spelling competencies of students and to assess them linguistically and didactically. It highlights the challenges involved in teaching spelling and how these can be successfully addressed. The manual also includes a collection of relevant spelling rules for teaching, along with illustrative examples. The author team was involved in the development of the EDK recommendations for implementing the spelling reform in Swiss schools, as well as in the creation of the German-speaking Swiss Curriculum 21. Thus, it is ensured that the rules presented in this manual align with the curriculum and EDK requirements.
