Die Welt wieder verzaubern

Silvia Federici is one of the most influential feminist theorists of our time. In this volume, which gathers texts from the last twenty years, the commons are at the center of the analysis. Federici succeeds in relating the proletarian struggles against enclosures of the past and present. However, she does not understand the commons as "islands of the blessed" in a sea of exploitative conditions, but as autonomous spaces from which the existing capitalist organization of life and work can be challenged. The struggles of women and their reproductive labor are of central importance, not only because they are crucial for our (survival) but also because from this perspective a world beyond the devastations of capitalism can be envisioned. Federici interprets the "disenchantment of the world" (Max Weber) politically, as the destruction of any logic beyond capitalist rationality. Hence her call to re-enchant the world and to discover and fight for other worlds.
