Suzie Wong's search for her unknown grandfather begins in Vienna and brings to light complicated family relationships that are closely intertwined with the contemporary history of the first half of the 20th century. The trail leads in stages along incredible, sometimes convoluted paths deep into Korea's tragic history and reveals the great importance of the grandfather - Seo Yeong-hae - for his country. It is the story of a passionate freedom fighter and anti-fascist who clashed not only with the Japanese occupiers of Korea, but also with the fascists of Germany, Italy and Spain. Last but not least, the book tells the short love story of Seo Yeong-hae and the Viennese Elisabeth Bräuer.
