Wiglaf Droste was a genius of the short form. As an author, singer, and reader, he led a wild life on reading stages, in newspapers, and on the radio, in search of truth and love. Born and raised in East Westphalia, he wanted to become a rock musician and was then called "the Kurt Tucholsky of our time" (Willi Winkler). Wiglaf Droste was both feared and celebrated as a satirist, yet he referred to himself as "a simple boy from the countryside." He never wanted to get used to "the world often refusing to show itself to me in its most beautiful light." Meueler spoke with his friends and relatives, with contemporaries and companions, with Vincent Klink, Bela B, Max Goldt, among others. It is a touching story of courage and fear and a journey of discovery into a lost world, when everything seemed possible in cultural life.
