Climate Change at the Beginning of Our Modern World
In the 16th and 17th centuries, the climate in Europe changed dramatically, resulting in crop failures and famines. The economy and society fell into a deep crisis. The Little Ice Age provides a concrete understanding of the severe upheavals triggered by climate change. People attempted to free themselves from dependence on nature through new knowledge, methods, and techniques. Political and social upheavals, industrialization, and ultimately globalization followed. Today, this modern world is reaching its limits and faces new challenges in light of a climate crisis that it has partly brought upon itself.
