Marcel Pagnol, born on February 28, 1895, in Aubagne near Marseille and died on April 18, 1974, in Paris, studied literature in Aix en Provence and became a member of the Académie française in 1946. His first major successes came in 1928 with plays, after which he turned to filmmaking. It was not until he was sixty that he began to write about his childhood, which brought him worldwide fame: "A Childhood in Provence" includes the two world-famous classics "Marcel" (1957) and "Marcel and Isabelle" (1958).
