Product details

The main work of the great Austrian author – newly published and scientifically commented, with a foreword by Antje Rávik Strubel.

"I have read The Wall three times already and I'm far from done." – Nicole Krauss

"If someone were to ask me about the ten most important books in my life, this one would definitely be among them." – Elke Heidenreich in Lesen!

A woman wants to spend a few days in a hunting lodge in the mountains with her cousin and her husband. After their arrival, the couple takes a walk to the nearest village and does not return. The next morning, the woman encounters an invisible, smooth, cool barrier – an insurmountable wall, behind which there is a state of deathly stillness. Cut off from the rest of the world, she settles into her confined piece of nature, surrounded by a few stray animals, and focuses on survival.

The Wall is an overwhelmingly impressive account of a woman's complete isolation beyond civilization. The novel has been translated into several languages, adapted for film and theater, and is considered Marlen Haushofer's most important work.
