Around 1980, Andreas Banaski, under the pseudonym Kid P., introduced a new sound to the German music press: sharp, provocative, romantic, emphatic, witty, precise in judgment, decisive, and never hesitant. His punk fanzines and letters to the editor of the magazine Sounds made him well-known. Shortly thereafter, when he began writing for magazines like Sounds and Spex, he quickly became a leading figure. His articles, scene reports, and critiques earned him admiration, fear, disdain, and love from readers. He combined an almost limitless knowledge of music, film, television, or football with a penchant for gossip, tabloid news, and the allure of the superficial. Kid P.'s challenging and polarizing style influenced an entire generation of writers. He was admired as a pioneer and role model long after he largely withdrew from the public eye. This volume presents, for the first time, collected texts by Andreas Banaski. They are foundational documents of German pop journalism.
