Product details
Emily Kempin-Spyri (1853-1901) was the first female lawyer in Switzerland. However, since she was not allowed to practice as a lawyer there, she emigrated to the USA, where she founded a law school for women and taught there. After several other experiences and a broken marriage, Emily Kempin-Spyri applied in 1888 for the position of maid with a pastor, having failed in her life’s ambitions. Although she could not achieve what she had dreamed of, she paved the way for many women after her. Eveline Hasler uncovers a piece of hidden history in this gripping novel. "The Waxwing Woman" is more than just the story of an early emancipation that ended tragically. As in all of Eveline Hasler's novels, this book contains something timeless that can also be related to the present.
