Die Vögel der Insel Sylt

During the bird migration periods in spring and autumn, Sylt is one of the most bird-rich landscapes in Schleswig-Holstein. To date, 338 bird species have been observed here, including over 100 breeding species. It is therefore astonishing that 100 years have passed since Hagendefeldt's first complete account of Sylt's bird life without another avifauna of the island being published. Gerhard Pfeifer remedies this shortcoming. With the help of annotated species lists as well as a current breeding bird list and a list of resting birds, he covers the entire bird world of the island. In addition, he presents a comprehensive study of the island of Sylt in its capacity as a breeding and resting place: Based on an explanation of the diverse natural, historical and economic conditions, Pfeifer examines areas of ornithological importance as well as current conservation problems and measures.
