Product details

On the Wustrow Peninsula, located between Rostock and Lübeck, the Nazis built the largest anti-aircraft artillery school in the German Reich in the 1930s. Hitler, Göring, and Mussolini came here to witness the latest technology for the planned air war. After the end of World War II, the former barracks and officers' quarters served as shelter for thousands of refugees until the Red Army moved in and operated a military base for over four decades, which included a naval base and a signals intelligence outpost. The area, sold to a group of investors in 1998, was intended for the development of comfortable holiday resorts but has remained unused since 1993. The abandoned military town and the adjacent nature reserve are still not open to visitors. Edelgard and Klaus Feiler have researched the history of the site over the years in archives and through conversations with eyewitnesses. They present the tumultuous history of the forbidden peninsula for the first time, showcasing rare documents and unique historical photographs.
